Abstract

Algebraic thinking skills are a way of thinking analytically with activities mainly of generalization and solving algebraic problems. The system of linear equations of two variables are one of the materials in school that require algebraic thinking skills. Students have difficulty in thinking algebra, especially understanding process skills. It takes a task that can help students develop algebraic thinking skills. This article aims to describe the form of tasks with faded examples that help students develop algebraic thinking skills. The task form presented consists of two types of faded examples, namely forward-fading and backward-fading. The development of this task form is important in facilitating and improving students’ algebraic thinking skills. The development method used three stages of the ADDIE model, namely Analysis, Design, and Development. The analysis stage is carried out by competency analysis and analysis of student characteristics. The design stage is determining the context of the problem, the number of tasks, and the problems given in the task which produces a prototype of the task form with faded examples. The development stage is the development stage based on the validator’s suggestions and comments that produce a valid task form. The results obtained are in the form of tasks with faded examples in the form of forward-fading and backward-fading. The resulting task form is limited to solving the system of linear equations of two variables on the completion of substitution.
