Proceedings of the 1st International Integrative Conference on Health, Life and Social Sciences (ICHLaS 2017)

The 1st International Integrative Conferences on Health, Life Sciences and Social Sciences (ICHLaS 2017) was held by Institute of Research and Community Engagement (referred as Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian Masyarakat / LP2M) in cooperation with Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, State Islamic University Syarif Hidayatullah on 11–12 November 2017 in Titan Conference Centre, South Tangerang, Indonesia.

South Tangerang, the home of the biggest State Islamic University Syarif Hidayatullah, amid pleasant and beautiful surroundings, enriched with plenty of cultural and culinary life, was a memorable place for the conference. The 147 scientific participants, some of whom were students, had many fruitful discussions and exchanges that contributed to the development of science. Participants from 4 countries (Thailand, Gambia, Yemen, and Indonesia) made the conference truly international in scope. A total of 74 papers were presented during two scientific days and formed the essential discussion not only for exchanging information but also collaborating on each other works. We have done review process that two reviewers have reviewed each paper. Of the total number of presented papers, after peer-review process 48 of these are included in this proceedings volume. During the conference, keynote speech was presented by the Director of Institute of Research and Community Engagement, Prof. Arskal Salim GP, M.A, Ph.D. He discussed about Health, Sexuality and Culture in the Intermediary Marriage after Triple Divorce in Aceh. This topic broaden up our horizon in the integration of medical, health and social sciences. In the first day, we invited Prof. Sakorn Pornprasert, M.Sc, Ph.D from Department of Medical Technology, Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences, Chiang Mai University, Chiang Mai, Thailand to share how to control Thalassemia in Thailand. In the second day, plenary session is presented by Prof. Eun-Kee Park, Ph.D, MASc from the Department of Medical Humanities and Social Medicine, College of Medicine, Kosin University, Busan, Republic of Korea to share his expert knowledge on the topic of Burden of The Global Community in Regards to Occupational and Environmental Health. Joining in this session also Daniel Ken Inaoka, Ph.D from Nagasaki University, School of Tropical Medicine and Global Health, Japan to share fnctional expression of mitochondrial malate: quinone oxidoreductase from Plasmamodium falciparum in bacterial membrane and identification of nanomolar order inhibitors; Dr. Takaya Sakura from Nagasaki University, School of Tropical Medicine and Global Health, Japan to share the upstream sequence segment of the C-terminal cysteine-rich domain is required for microneme trafficking of Plasmodium falciparum erythrocyte binding antigen 175 and Prof. Dr. Nasir bin Mohamad, Ph.D from University of Sultan Zainal Abidin, Terengganu, Malaysia to share his expertise on Prophetic Medicine: From Bench to Bedside.

These two days of discussion covered the full range of the conference topics, the first conference in Indonesia which tries to integrate medicine and health with another aspects of science including social and religion. The 1st International Integrative Conferences on Health, Life Sciences and Social Sciences (ICHLaS 2017) was very successful. The plenary lectures and paper presentation integrate all aspects of sciences related to health and medicine and give plenty of opportunities for both participants and institution for better research collaboration in the future. Last but not least, we would like to express our gratitude to all conference committee, students, and participants who have contributed in this conference. The next ICHLaS will be held in 2018 and we are glad to welcome you in the following year.
