Abstract

Music education in elementary schools has significant potential to develop students’ social-emotional skills, such as cooperation, communication, empathy, and emotional regulation. However, conventional music instruction methods are often less effective in achieving these objectives. The Orff method, with its holistic and play-based approach, offers an innovative solution to enhance students’ social-emotional skills through enjoyable and interactive musical activities. This study aims to analyze the influence of the Orff method on improving the social-emotional skills of University students majoring in Elementary school Teacher Education 2023 cohort, particularly in terms of cooperation, communication, and empathy. This research employs a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The research subjects were 2023 cohort students divided into two groups: an experimental group that received music instruction using the Orff method and a control group that used conventional methods. Data were collected through observation, questionnaires, and performance assessments, and were analyzed quantitatively using paired sample T-test and independent sample T-test. The expected outcome of this research is empirical evidence regarding the effectiveness of the Orff method in enhancing students’ social-emotional skills, as well as practical recommendations for teachers and schools in implementing the Orff method in music education. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the development of a more holistic music curriculum and support character formation at the elementary school level.
