Abstract

Civic Education has a pivotal role in shaping the character of younger generations by integrating Indonesia’s local wisdom. Local wisdom represents a unique cultural expression encompassing values, ethics, norms, principles, and skills that equip communities to address the challenges of sustainability. This study aims to explore the role of Civic Education in preserving and sustaining local wisdom in the Mandar region. Employing a qualitative research method, data were collected through a comprehensive review of books, articles, and journals relevant to the subject. The findings reveal that Civic Education is essential in safeguarding Mandar’s local wisdom, as it fosters students’ appreciation for cultural heritage and ancestral traditions. This, in turn, cultivates attitudes of tolerance, mutual respect, and acceptance of the nation’s diversity. Educational systems in schools and higher education institutions are expected to encourage students and university learners to embody the values embedded in the curriculum, thereby promoting a profound sense of national pride and patriotism.
