Abstract

Globalization brings new challenges for international ethics. The main issue at hand is how to apply globally acceptable ethical values while maintaining national cultural identity. Pancasila, Indonesia’s state ideology, offers five fundamental values of Deity, Humanity, Unity, Democracy, and Social Justice that are universal and relevant in the context of globalization. This study aims to criticize the opportunities and challenges of Pancasila as an alternative to global citizen ethics. This study is a type of library research using a qualitative descriptive approach. The subject of the study is research findings and ideas on Pancasila as an ideology in the era of globalization, presented in the form of books, articles in accredited journals, and research results. Data collection is conducted through a literature review. The stages of the study include formulating problems, identifying and classifying literature, analyzing data, and interpreting the findings. The truth of Pancasila values is accepted by global citizens. Pancasila as an open ideology, allows adjustment of its values to the times and technological advances without changing the basic essence of its values. This characteristic of Pancasila opens up opportunities for the utilization of Pancasila as the basis of global citizenship ethics. The challenge is to ensure that Pancasila remains the authority of the Indonesian nation. The challenge is faced with the continuous revitalization of Pancasila through educational institutions, families, and communities as a laboratory for Pancasila habituation.
