Abstract

Folk dance is crucial to a country’s intangible cultural heritage and has been overshadowed by modern forms of entertainment in recent decades. Digital archives are a way to preserve cultural heritage by virtually storing different artifacts, making them more accessible. In addition, motion capture technologies and 3D modeling techniques open creative avenues for application development. This research generates motion capture animated 3D models that accurately represent Philippine folk dances. The motion capture data were gathered from a dancer wearing a motion capture suit. A software, Patunhay, was then created using Unity, which incorporates the motion capture data into a 3D model. The generated models are then added to a digital archive of different Philippine folk dances containing motion capture animated 3D models, offering a method to preserve dances digitally.
