Abstract

The scarlet letter as A representative of the hawthorne’s first long literary works, assembled hawthorne all classic thoughts and consciousness, and give full play to the hawthorne in characters and the application of symbolism talent, to keep the story characters between the spiritual and moral see-saw, stabbed into in the scarlet letter “A” to become involved in four clues to the fate of the protagonist, study with symbolism and the character image mold two angles, this paper involves an “A” as A symbolic connotation of the deficit, respectively analysis “adultery”, “angel”, “female warrior” between progressive, In the same way, the application and design of the overall symbolism are also studied from the perspective of the image creation of Hester, Arthur, Roge and Pear, so as to have an in-depth understanding of the ambiguity, symbolism and systematization of the novel content and reveal the clue relationship of the structure in the novel system.
