Abstract

E-cigarettes, considered healthier substitutes for traditional cigarettes, are being used more and more frequently, especially among adolescents. However, there are not many studies that support this claim. Moreover, recent studies have suggested that e-cigarettes are actually as harmful as traditional cigarettes. Considering the increasing trend of people using e-cigarettes, it is necessary to do a study to determine whether or not e-cigarettes are healthier than traditional cigarettes. This paper, through a method of comparing data from recent studies, explores the negative effects of both e-cigarettes and traditional cigarettes on the lungs and bronchi. The paper finds that e-cigarettes are actually harmful to the lungs and bronchial tubes. Besides, its damage level, which is the damage severity e-cigarettes causes to the lungs and bronchial tubes, is approximately the same compared to traditional cigarettes.
