Abstract

The article deals with a problem of such an activity as summary writing of foreign texts in a nonlinguistic university. Under the focus of the author’s attention there are key transformation stages of the original text into the newly born one. The author analyses the most essential steps in summary writing based on the original professional text devoted to one of the aviation problems. The practical part is supplied with the system of exercises leading to development of a communicative competence among the cadets at aviation institute. Summary writing is considered as an effective means of working with foreign professional texts cultivating such a competence as a communicative one.
