Proceedings of the International Conference on Technology and Vocational Teachers (ICTVT 2017)

It is our great pleasure to present the 1st International Conference on Technology and Vocational Teachers (ICTVT 2017), held on 28 September 2017 at Sheraton Mustika Hotel, Yogyakarta, Indonesia The development of qualified and competitive human resources demands to be sustainably maintained. In line with the Presidential Instruction Number 9 of 2016 on the revitalization of vocational high schools, the government is working to plot certain strategies to prepare competitive human resources. The revitalization of vocational education is emerging as the cornerstone strategy of national human resource development which aims to better prepare competitive human resources within the framework of the world of work. Several strategies to revitalize vocational education include: (1) preparing a road map for vocational education; (2) enhancing and harmonizing the curriculum of vocational education in accordance with the competence of the graduates (Link and Match); (3) increasing the quantity and quality of vocational teachers and academic staffs; (4) establishing collaborative works with the ministries, institutions, local governments, business and industries; (5) improving the access to vocational certification and accreditation; and (6) forming working groups of vocational education. The quality improvement of vocational educators is required to balance with technological mastery to produce competent graduates. The mastery of applied technology could be conducted by updating the competency of vocational educators through research and collaboration with business and industries.
