Proceedings of the International Conference on Sustainable Development of Cross-Border Regions: Economic, Social and Security Challenges (ICSDCBR 2019)
Welcome to the International Conference on Sustainable Development of Cross-Border Regions: Economic, Social and Security Challenges (ICSDCBR 2019). The conference was held at the Altai State University, Russia on April 18-19, 2019.
The conference sessions provided multiple opportunities for researchers from Russia and the CIS member states to present and discuss their research results on sustainable development of cross-border regions:
Session 1: “On the Path to Sustainability: Economic Growth and Social Development in Cross-border Regions.” The key topics discussed include issues of sustainable economic development, sustainable policies in cross-border regions, regional economic resilience, sustainability and development of social institutions in cross-border regions (with a focus on Soviet legacies and contemporary interactions). Our participants also analyzed drivers of and barriers to sustainable development, disusing such issues as eco-efficiency models for investment sustainability, knowledge and intellectual capital, as well as social sustainability in industry 4.0.
Session 2: “Legal and Governance Issues of Sustainable Development in Cross-Border Areas.” Participants presented research on institutional, legal, and governance aspects of sustainability assessment and indicators. Also, among other highly debatable topics are legal concepts and practices in sustainable governance; regional legislation in the field of sustainable development; legal institutions and practices of sustainable development
Session 3: “Social Security, Migration, and Risks of Sustainable Development of Trans-Border Regions.” This session addressed the following demanding issues and challenges (among others): social security policies and systems of cross-border regions; societal impacts of sustainability assessment processes and indicators; social rights and sustainable development; inclusive societies as means for building sustainable future; social risks of sustainable development, social exclusion in cross-border regions; international migration at the beginning of the twenty-first century: global trends and issues; Eurasian integration and the challenges of development in cross-border regions; the socio-economic contribution of migrants to cross-border regions.
