Abstract

Instructional leadership is a strategic key in directing the vision, mission, and learning values that encourage the formation of a positive culture in early childhood education. This study was conducted with kindergarten principals who are members of the Indonesian Kindergarten Teachers Association (IGTKI) in Driyorejo District, Gresik Regency. The research aimed to examine the transformation of educational leadership practices through the identification and internalization of effective strategies in building a positive, collaborative, and child development-centered school environment. A deep learning approach was applied, emphasizing critical understanding, contextual reflection, and real-world application. Data were collected using pretests and posttests and analyzed with inferential statistics. The findings revealed that the study significantly improved principals’ understanding and practices of instructional leadership, which directly influenced the establishment of a positive school culture. Results of the Paired Samples t-Test indicated that the mean posttest score was 14.57 points higher than the mean pretest score, with a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000 (p < 0.05). This demonstrates that the research intervention had a significant impact on enhancing participants’ knowledge and skills. The principals were able to identify positive culture indicators such as empathetic communication, professional collaboration, and continuous learning, and integrate these practices into school policies and programs. The study highlights the role of school principals as agents of change and key drivers in fostering a healthy, safe, and inspiring early childhood education ecosystem.
