- Abstract
Museum is an important representational form of cultural space, which core value is cultural identity. Taking Quanzhou Maritime Museum as an example, on the basis of the spatial attributes of the museum, this paper analyzes the principles, elements, spatial layout and contents of the spatial production of the museum, and then discusses its spatial practice, spatial representation and representational space. The results show that according to the historic context and space change, Quanzhou Maritime Museum presents a profound history and multicultural of Maritime Silk Road(MSR) with four parts: “Living by the sea”, “Oriental grand harbor”, “Multicultural gathering” and “Safeguarding heritage”. With the social development, the space practice of Maritime Museum has been changing. However, its representation of space has always been closely around Quanzhou maritime history and culture. Maritime Museum possesses the knowledge power of maritime history and culture. Through the representational space, the museum is committed to restoring the social history, which was peaceful and friendly dialogue between China and foreign countries through the sea, in the public memory.
