- Abstract
This research aims to reveal the complexity and sustainability of the Jamu Laut tradition in Jaring Halus Village, North Sumatra, and its impact on the spiritual and cultural awareness of the community. The Jamu Laut tradition reflects a unique balance between local culture, spirituality, and human interaction with nature. This study employs a transcendental communication approach with an in-depth case study method. The findings indicate that the Jamu Laut tradition plays a crucial role in maintaining cultural identity, continuing cultural heritage, and protecting fishermen from potential threats and disasters. Additionally, this tradition preserves cultural knowledge and transmits social values through generations. Despite facing social, economic, and environmental changes, the practice of transcendental communication in this tradition plays a vital role in nurturing religious and moral values in the community. This study provides deep insights into the relationship between humans, nature, and the spiritual dimension in local culture. It contributes to the understanding of valuable cultural diversity and the importance of traditions like Jamu Laut in celebrating human connections with nature and the spiritual world. Efforts to preserve this cultural heritage enable the community to feel connected to their ancestors and create a deeper connection between the past and the future.
