Abstract

Understanding nutrition must be taught through formal school education to introduce appropriate nutritional content for the body’s needs. Foods with high nutrition and low calories are required in the face of an increase in foods with high calories and low nutrition. The research was aimed to determine the development, feasibility, and effectiveness of a nutrition booklet based on the local potential of Surakarta through STEM learning to optimize students’ healthy lifestyle attitude. The Borg & Gall development procedure was used in this research and development. The data analysis methods employed are descriptive qualitative and quantitative. The findings of the research and development show that: 1) Nutrition booklet based on the local potential of Surakarta was developed to contain four concepts of understanding nutrition (the concept of calories, the concept of activity as burning calories, the concept of nutrition, and the concept of macronutrients & micronutrients) packaged to optimize students’ healthy lifestyle attitude; 2) The booklet’s feasibility is determined by expert validation demonstrating very good qualifications, educational practitioners demonstrating good qualifications, and small group tests of users demonstrating very good qualifications; 3) The booklet’s effectiveness demonstrated that using a nutrition booklet based on the local potential of Surakarta through STEM learning is effective in optimizing students’ healthy lifestyle attitude. The study suggests that booklets can be created as a learning source conducted in high school or college level.
