In this publication you will find a collection of scholarly articles and insightful commentaries that delve into various aspects of General Education. Our contributors include educators, researchers and experts from different disciplines, providing a multidimensional exploration of the Humanities and General Education. All contributions come from the proceedings of the HCT 2022 International General Education Conference, Practice and Pedagogy in General Education, held virtually at the Higher Colleges of Technology, Dubai Women’s Campus, the United Arab Emirates on October 5th, 2022.

Close to 300 local and international participants attended the conference from all corners of the globe including Japan, China, Korea, Canada, USA, Philippines and Lithuania to name a few. The conference was aimed at sharing best practices around teaching and learning, pedagogical delivery and research to promote knowledge sharing, exchange and networking within General Education.

The conference started with a warm welcome by Dr Ayoub Kazim, the director of Higher Colleges of Technology, Dubai campuses, followed by two inspiring plenary speakers, Dr. Georgia Daleure; (ex) Dean General Studies, Higher Colleges of Technology, and Nergis Uyan; director of the Ozyegin University School of Languages, Turkey. Dr. Georgia Daleure spoke about the trends and future skills in education, in her presentation: The Future of General Education: Serving the needs of the dynamic post-COVID global society. Nergus Uyan considered the needs of educators in her thought provoking presentation entitled: Managing the evolution of CPDs into PCDs: far beyond the plans.

Following the plenary speakers, a diverse range of paper presentations focused on topics such as digital learning, employability, developing global citizens, and assessment development, bringing new perspectives and insights to various fields across General Education.

We would like to acknowledge the authors of the papers collected in the present volume; the members of the conference organizing committee; the volume editors and the many managers, faculty and staff from the Higher colleges of Technology for their guidance and support in making this conference a success.

We look forward to our next conference in 2024 and invite you to join us on this intellectual journey as we continue to explore the intersection of disciplines across General Education around the themes of employability and job readiness.
