- Abstract
The paper presents a brief overview of the existing solutions for connecting the rigid joints with the steel frame columns in multi-storied buildings, the advantages, and disadvantages of the existing designs of rigid connection are analyzed; on the basis of the analysis performed a new structural design of beam to column connection with the use of the high-strength beam and pre-stressing of the near-support girder segment is suggested. A high-strength tie with pre-stressing creates in a girder opposite torques in the step and span girder zones and is also involved in the transfer of the support moment from girder to the column. The paper presents the comparison of the metal consumption for a steel frame containing different longitudinal beam to column joints, the area of application of the new joint structural design has been specified; it was also shown that as the result of using the high-strength tie one may reduce the beam cross-section and reduce the metal consumption per a building frame.
