Abstract

The transformative influence of artificial intelligence (AI) on fashion design is already evident. Chinese fashion design has evolved into a multi-dimensional, multi-agent, and multi-synergistic interactive system. From the perspective of Chinese cultural heritage, it is essential to examine the shifts in fashion design under AI-driven models. The successful integration of AI into fashion design has led to significant process innovations, the elimination of redundant workflows, the bridging of cross-disciplinary divides, and the emergence of a diversified design landscape. However, these advancements have also given rise to several dilemmas, particularly regarding the depth and authenticity of cultural expression in Chinese fashion design, as well as the simultaneous widening and narrowing of both the technological and cultural divides. Despite technological progress, the Chinese fashion industry still faces critical challenges: the tendency to avoid empirical design methodologies, the evolving roles and positioning of designers and AI systems, and the ongoing construction of design thinking and logic rooted in Chinese cultural identity.AI is redefining traditional design processes, underscoring the urgent need for a new paradigm in Chinese fashion studies. The integration of design thinking with digital technology is poised to become a defining trend in future fashion design. Although AI has yet to fully replace front-end designers, there is a pressing need to remain vigilant about the cognitive spaces increasingly occupied by AI. The repositioning of human and machine roles remains the most significant challenge facing contemporary fashion design. To navigate this evolving landscape, designers must cultivate a deep understanding of cultural heritage, enhance their design thinking capabilities, and develop robust design logic to ensure that AI-driven innovations align with the essence of Chinese cultural aesthetics.
