Abstract

Based on the two concepts, namely, the different importance of index and the relative different importance of index which are presented in the paper, a knowledge engineering method, namely, an approach to simplify the index hierarchy is developed in this paper, through introducing DS theory. The superiority of the method is that the concept of index importance used by the method is reasonable and the computation mode of indexes’ weights is similar to the real thought of humans. The results of numerical demonstrations show that the simplifying method is scientific and reliable. Thus it can be used to validly simplify index hierarchies.
