Abstract

Identity problem is a hot topic in today’s society and academia. In the cultural, political, gender, regional, and other different systems, people’s identity is stuck with different labels, and various stereotypes attached to people are constantly being reinforced. Logocentrism and binary opposition are the conceptual basis of this thinking mode. The queer theory provides people with another way of thinking and behavior. Its emphasis on the fluidity and transgression of identity strongly opposes and attacks the inherent and pre-existing identity construction. La Mucada is a festival established on the basis of queer theory. This paper tries to use queer theory to understand the connotation and influence of this festival and the possibility that logocentrism and binary opposition can be broken through this festival. It demonstrates that this festival challenges people’s previous gender, cultural, and social identity through irrational carnival and dramatic resistance to tradition and participants achieve the transgression and flow of identity.
