Abstract

Membrane computing with the advantages of distribution and maximum parallelism is a new branch of natural computing, and discrete Morse theory is a very useful tool in topology. In this paper, combining discrete Morse theory and membrane computing, a novel membrane structure—P system with chain structure is proposed, which is constructed on the basis of discrete gradient vector path. A specific application example, P chain system for arithmetic operation, is introduced too. By simulation of it, the superiority, computational efficiency and ability of P system with chain structure are verified.
