- Abstract
The authors of the work substantiate the necessity for specifying the role of tool concepts in the world landscape, seeking for various methods of their identification. From the standpoint mentioned, special attention is drawn to metaphors and figurative comparisons, including the names of various tools. We prove that body parts and functions, underlying the metaphoric names of tools and their components, remain important for comprehending the present-day machinery and its further technical development. The paper contains an extensive theoretical study of hypotheses and philosophical doctrines, explaining the origin of work tools and the principles of their operation through their similarity to human organs. The theoretical conclusions of our research are complemented and illustrated by numerous examples, borrowed from literary works of Russian and Soviet poets and writers.
