- Abstract
Structural violence against women persists as a deeply embedded and often invisible form of harm, manifesting through interconnected legal, political, cultural, and economic systems that perpetuate gender inequality and normalize exclusion. This paper explores how transformative legal reform can serve as a strategic and necessary response to dismantle such systemic oppression and promote sustainable, inclusive justice. Through comparative analysis of case studies from both post-conflict and stable societies, the research highlights the inadequacy of formal legal mechanisms that focus solely on criminalizing overt acts of violence, while failing to confront the underlying socio-legal structures and power imbalances that sustain gender-based harm. The paper advocates for an intersectional and participatory approach to legal reformone that centers women’s diverse lived experiences, engages with customary and informal justice systems, and emphasizes restorative rather than purely punitive models. It also underscores the importance of integrating legal change with broader social, educational, and institutional reforms. By advancing legal frameworks that not only protect women’s rights but also redistribute power and challenge discriminatory norms, societies can foster more resilient, equitable, and peaceful communities. Ultimately, this study argues that transformative legal reform is essential for achieving gender justice, enabling structural change, and upholding human dignity across generations.
