Today's world has entered a rapid development process of integration in the global economy and trade, in this background, the social need more professional English talents put forward newer and higher requirements and standards for the existing English teaching, which needs Students master English language skills on the basis, and be able to have a more in-depth understanding in culture, civilization, history and development of the Western world and have a higher capacity for innovation and adaptability. This article as a research starting point in-depth analyzes the importance of English and American Literature course in English major teaching, and it is also an important way to enhance the Humanities Education for College Students, they both allow students to master more professional knowledge of English, and on the subsequent professional training we provide the necessary protection, which is an important medium for the culture of the humanities college students to change the traditional English teaching exam pattern, reflecting the connotation of quality of English teaching training. This also demonstrates the importance of teaching English and American literature and also highlights the need for advanced teaching philosophy from the way the quality of teaching.
