- Abstract
This study is intended as one of the studies on the development of vocational schools (SMK) in the Medan City area. Data collection techniques using documentation studies, namely documents containing data obtained from the Medan City Education Office and Medan City Statistics Center. Data analysis techniques use Rank Spearman correlation technique. The results of the study concluded that: (1) there was a significant relationship between the interest graduates of the junior high school (SMP) community and the number of SMK units, (2) there was a significant relationship between the number of SMK units and the quality of SMK graduates (proxies from the average National Exam score), (3) there was a significant relationship between the quality of SMK graduates and employment opportunities in Medan City, and (4) several factors of SMK that could support regional development planning in Medan, including: a) number of SMK students who indicate public interest in SMP graduates to continue their education to the vocational level, (b) the number of SMK units for SMP students, (c) the quality of SMK graduates in order to compete in the labor market, and (d) the business/industrial world which absorbs SMK graduates in the labor market.
