Proceedings of the 1st International Conference on Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies (ICSSIS 2018)

It is our great pleasure to welcome each and every one to the 1st International Conferences on Social Studies and Interdisciplineary Studies (ICSSIS) 2018 taking place on November 14 and 15, 2018 at the Hotel Gand Mercure Medan in Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia. Scientific and Practitioners of the social science, doctoral, graduate, and undergraduate students were invited to participate in the conference that is organized by hosted by Faculty of Social Science, Universitas Negeri Medan.

International conference on Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies 2018 is a global platform that provides an interdisciplinary forum for the dissemination of social science research on anthropology, geography, history, and citizenships. This conference will bring together scholars and practitioners from a vast array of fields to foster discussion, expand understanding, and develop international collaborations to engage the global academic community on the issues of our time. The interdisciplinary examination of major policy issues from the perspective of social sciences researchers, policy makers, social workers, social practitioners, scholars and students we hope will provide an intellectually powerful and engaging experience.

A total of 131 application were received. We carefully reviewed all of them and invited 90 participants to join us in Medan, Indonesia. Additionally, we accepted a total of 80 papers to be published in our conference proceedings at Atlantis Press. All the papers accepted for publication correspond to the conference profile and reflect theoretical and empirical results of independent research projects. At least two experts rigorously reviewed each papers, and the team of editors carefully compiled them into one volume. We hope that the papers included in this proceedings will provide new insights and ideas for the readers and other researchers interested in Social Studies and Interdisciplineary Studies.

We would like to thank the organizing committee and the members of reviewers for their kind assistances in reviewing the papers. We would also like to extend our best gratitude to Rector of Universitas Negeri Medan, Prof. Dr. Syawal Gultom, M.Pd.; Dean of Faculty of Social Science, Dra. Nurmala Berutu, M.Pd. for the tremendous support. Furthermore, we would like to thank Prof. Makoto Takahashi (Nagoya University, Japan), Assoc Prof. Fatan Hamamah Yahaya (University Sains Malaysia), Prof. Warsono (Head of HISPISI), and Prof. Syawal Gultom (Rector Universitas Negeri Medan) as the keynote speakers for their invaluable contribution and ideas shared in the seminar.

We are particularly grateful to our staff members, for their enormous support, and to the reviewers, who share their valuable time and expertise to evaluate all manuscripts submitted to this issue.
