Proceedings of the Third International Conference on Social and Political Sciences (ICSPS 2017)
International conference on Social and Political Sciences (ICSPS) is an annual conference organized by the Faculty of Social and political Sciences (FISIP) Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University, Jakarta. The first conference was held in 2015, discussing about religious radicalism and political violence. The second conference (2016) emphasized on issues related to Islam and globalization. The third conference entitled “Celebrating Two Decades of Indonesia’s Reformation: Reexamining Democracy, State, and Civil Society”. So far, the conference has been becoming an important academic forum for scholars, researchers, activists and students to exchange knowledge and information.
In 2018, Indonesia will celebrate two decades of the Reformation. As one of the leading universities in Indonesia, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta (especially FISIP) continues to voice its concern on the development of democracy in Indonesia. Since the Reform movement in 1998, Indonesia has experienced several changes in many aspects of social and political life such as freedom of speech, freedom of faith, and other civil liberties. One of the most important political changes is the relationship between the state and civil society. During the New Order regime, the state was very strong while the civil sociey was weak. After the Reform, the relationship between the two has changed toward a more positive pattern.
To discuss this issue, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) has invited scholars, academics, researchers, government officials and NGO members to join and talk at the conference which has been held on the 14th -15th of November, 2017. We have received around two hundreds abstracts, each of a very qualified and relevant to the conference’s theme. Among the number, eighty six papers have been selected to publish in collaboration with The Atlantis Press (AP). To ensure the quality of the papers, each paper has been reviewed by three different reviewers. We have invited national and international scholars in the field to participate as independent reviewers. All the process is conducted through online system.
Finally, I will take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to the individuals and partners who have supported this conference from the initial preparation to the event days. Secondly, my special thanks to all keynote speakers: Professor Bahtiar Effendy (UIN Jakarta), Professor Edward Aspinall (ANU, Australia), Dr. Leonard Sebastian (RSIS NTU, Singapore), Dr. Sharyn Graham Davis (AUT, New Zealand), Dr. Saiful Mujani (UIN Jakarta) and Dr. Abubakar Eby Hara (Jember Univesity). Lastly, I want to express my big appreciation to all presenters who are coming from various countries and institutions.
Thank you for your paper and participation, please join us again at the forth ICSPS 2018
Sincerely
Prof. Dr. Zulkifli, MA
Dean
