Abstract

Evaluation is an important thing to do to measure and find out the quality of something. Evaluation is a form of assessment, so that you can take the right steps for the future. In the education system, evaluation is important to see the quality of education, andbut also to see the extent of deficiencies in the implementation of learning that has been carried out previously. Apart from that, evaluation is useful for determining the next steps that must be taken. Mid-semester assessment is an assessment carried out to see the success of learning carried out during the first half semester. Mid-semester assessments are included in summative assessments if they are linked to the independent curriculum. In summative assessment, it is important to know the quality of the instruments used in the assessment. It may be that if the assessment results are unsatisfactory, the error does not lie in the student’s lack of understanding, but lies in the instrument used being in a bad category. The main aim of this research is to determine the quality of the questions used in the Mid-Semester Assessment at SMPN 3 Yogyakarta. The aspects measured in this research are the validity and reliability of the test items, and the item difficulty index. This is because the instrument used in middle assesment at SMPN 3 Yogyakarta is in the form of 30 multiple-choice questions. This research was conducted using quantitative methods. The research results showed that 90% of the questions were valid, and the middle assesment questions were reliable. Apart from that, 11 questions are in the medium category and 19 questions are in the difficult category.
