Abstract

This study aims to describe the effectiveness of cooperative learning model type Numbered Heads Together (NHT) to improve student learning outcomes and support the ability of 21st-century students in learning mathematics. 21st-century ability selected in this study is mathematical communication skills and critical thinking skills. This study is a pre-experiment using the design of the one-group pretest-posttest. The population of this study was all students of Class X SMA Negeri 1 Bukittinggi consisting of 10 classes. The sample consists of one experimental class with 36 students selected purposive sampling. Data collection techniques using test in the form of tests of student learning outcomes and non-test n the form of observation questionnaires mathematical communication skills, and critical thinking skills of students. Data collection instruments used are tests for pretest and post-test, as well as observation questionnaires to see the communication skills and critical thinking skills of students. Normality assumption test using Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test at a significant level of c = 5%. Data analysis techniques used descriptive and paired sample t-test. Using paired sample t-tests with a significant level of = 5%, data analysis is used to evaluate how well the learning model improves learning outcomes. The results of this study indicate that the cooperative learning model of NHT type assisted by GeoGebra software can make teaching and learning process more student-centered, can improve 21st-century students’ abilities, and can enhance student learning outcomes.
