Proceedings of the International Conference on English Language Teaching (ICONELT 2017)

The International Conference on English Language Teaching (ICONELT 2017) is held with the hope to create communication and sharing platform between ELT experts, educators, education practitioners, and student teachers around the world. It is expected that there will be an exchange of knowledge and information among ELT practitioners in order to develop English language teaching and learning experiences in general. The target audience of the conference is English language teachers, lecturers, education practitioners, and student teachers in South East Asia. The focus of this year’s conference is on engaging students and empowering educators. We look at this effort from four points of view: technology integration, professional development, self-directed learning, and literacy and edupreneurship.

ICONELT 2017 was conducted by the English Teacher Education Department, Faculty of Education and Teacher Training, of UIN (State Islamic University) Sunan Ampel, Surabaya, Indonesia. The conference was held on the 24th – 25th of August 2017 and was attended by 250 participants, 110 of which were presenters. The overall program this year was considered to run smoothly and, therefore, will be biannually held.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all the key note speakers (Prof. Masaki Oda, Assoc. Prof. Henrietta vanRenburg, Ms. Amreet Kaur Jageer Singh, and also Mr. Francis O’Brien) for the talks in the conference, the presenters and also all the participants. We would also wish to thank all the committee members for their invaluable work.
