- Abstract
Gongsun Zan (?–199) was a warlord active in the late Eastern Han Dynasty (184–220). Although he finally failed in a series of wars in northern China, he was a historical figure who greatly influenced that era. At the same time, he was one of the most excellent cavalry commanders of the late Eastern Han Dynasty. This study analyses this historical figure from the angles of military and politics, trying to find some enlightenment from his early success and final failure.
