Abstract

The Plain English Movement was initiated in the late 20th Century. Since then, English political and economic texts written by various native speakers are competing to change from the flamboyant style of the past to a more concise and economical use of words and sentences. However, for various reasons, Chinese translators have not done a good job of adapting to the development of the English language. In this paper, we summarize the problems of redundancy in the English translation of relevant materials in terms of word formation, sentence construction and parts of speech, taking various materials collected from major marine English exhibitions in China over the past three years as examples, and suggest ways to improve them.
