- Abstract
Bangladesh is bejeweled with variant cultural heritage, variant land topography, and energetic inhabitants. It is also confronted by large risks from disastrous events in the form of floods, cyclones, or earthquakes which affect the citizens and economic stability of that area. Causes, categories, signs, and governance in relation to disaster management are documented in this paper. In the present context, disaster management plays a crucial role in saving life and livelihood, reducing economic loss for community development toward sustainable development. The paper enumerates some of the major disasters striking Bangladesh and pinpoints a few basic problems with their feasible solutions. This would highlight some of the activities being undertaken in the area of disaster mitigation by way of early warning systems, strong infrastructures, communities’ involvement, climate-resilient agriculture, and integrated water resource management. It draws from this study new knowledge of individual inputs on disaster management and increasing resilience in Bangladesh and elsewhere, supported by specific recommendations. Hence, the present research brings into light the pivotal role of disaster risk reduction and management strategies in Bangladesh; it thus acts as a source to the policy makers, stakeholders, and the community.
