Abstract

Under the fast-paced lifestyle, pre-made dishes have emerged, creating a competitive dynamic with traditional fresh dishes. However, consumer acceptance of pre-made dishes varies significantly, which may lead retailers to conceal information about such dishes to maximize profits. This research explores how suppliers’ promotion of pre-made dishes influences retailers’ optimal disclosure strategies. We develop a composite food supply chain model in which a supplier simultaneously wholesales fresh ingredients and pre-made meal kits, while different retailers in the same market sell pre-made dishes and freshly cooked dishes, respectively. The conclusions indicate that supplier promotion can encourage retailers to disclose information about pre-made dishes. However, under certain conditions, such promotional efforts may reduce the supplier’s own profits. Our results suggest that promotional activities by pre-made dish suppliers positively influence information disclosure across the supply chain, thereby contributing to the establishment of a well-regulated pre-made dish market.
