Abstract

Gravitational Water Vortex Turbine (GWVT) has the advantage of harnessing hydro flow energy from the low head. Several research have been conducted to optimize the performance of this turbine type, one of which is by applying multistage rotor. This work is to study the effect of gap placement and phase shift angle between stages that have not been clarified in other works. The result showed that the highest mechanical efficiency belonged to the rotor with gap on the top stage while the implementation of phase shift angle between stages lowers the performance of the rotor.
