- Abstract
The development of Indonesia’s new capital city (IKN) in Kalimantan presents an opportunity to introduce an architectural approach that is not only modern and sustainable but also reflects spiritual values and local cultural identity. This study proposes the concept of the “Al-Qur’an Skyline” as a city skyline model inspired by Islamic architectural principles found in the Qur’an. The model aims to create visual and spiritual harmony in high-rise buildings within the urban area of IKN. This approach combines a thematic analysis of Qur’anic verses related to height, order, and balance in structures, along with typological studies of Islamic architecture and contemporary urban skylines. The outcome is a conceptual model and a set of skyline design principles that can serve as a guide for architects and urban planners in shaping IKN’s identity as a modern Islamic city.
