Abstract

The article considers structural and semantic modifications of the traditional paroimias (sayings, proverbs, aphorisms, etc.) in combinatorial paremiology. In the theory such modifications are called combinatorial mechanisms of new paroimias formation. As a result of the analysis made, it is revealed that traditional paroimias convert into new paroimias (anti-proverbs or perverbs). The causes of paroimias modifications are changes in the life and livelihood of the certain ethnic group. The focus of our research is to analyse mechanisms of new paroimias formation including structural, semantic and functional transformations of English paroimias.
