Abstract

This study analyzes the spatiotemporal evolution of online attention for 39 5A-rated scenic spots in Southwest China from 2018 to 2024, using Baidu Index data and quantitative methods including the Seasonal and Geographical Concentration Indices. Results reveal a distinct “rise-decline-rebound-fallback” temporal pattern, with significant seasonal fluctuations that have moderated recently, indicating market rationalization. Spatially, attention has diffused from traditional hotspots to a more regional equilibrium, a trend more evident in natural scenic areas, with Guizhou and Chongqing showing notable growth. The findings demonstrate a structural shift from “hotspot concentration” to “regional equilibrium.” Accordingly, policy recommendations for seasonal regulation, regional coordination, and smart governance are proposed to promote sustainable tourism development.
