- Abstract
As China’s population ages and its healthcare needs diversify, the patient escort profession has emerged as a burgeoning service industry. However, this fast-growing area is full of many challenges to its professionalization and long-term development. Based on the questionnaires and interviews conducted with patients’ escorts, six major issues in their work have been identified: overly high client expectations, limitations of the hospital’s system, personal safety and health threats, unclear professional demarcation, unstable income, and insufficient social recognition. This article applies concepts from behavioral economics to analyze the causes of the above problems and propose countermeasures. The results provide theory basis and practical reference for standardizing the patient escort profession and promoting them to go in-depth.
