- Abstract
Dementia is the most common onset of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The main neuropathological characteristics of AD are extracellular amyloid plaques and intracellular accumulation of hyperphosphorylated Tau protein. Because of the complexity of the pathogenesis, the most treatment options are not effective at present. Conventional treatmentstrategies, acety-lcholinesterase inhibitors and N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor antagonists, are only able to alleviate the symptoms of AD. The research on AD therapy has had limited success .Consequently, targeted therapy will become potential ways to treat Alzheimer's disease in the future. This paper makes a brief review on this aspect.
