- Abstract
We consider a special fine grading of sl(3, C), where the grading subspaces are geerated by 3 × 3 generalized Pauli matrices. This fine grading decomposes sl(3, C) into eight onedimensional subspaces. Our aim is to find all contractions of sl(3, C) which preserve this grading. We have found that the symmetry group of this grading is isomorphic to the group of 2 × 2 matrices with entries from the cyclic group Z3 and determinant ±1 (mod 3). It is used to simplify the set of the associated nonlinear contraction equations as well as to identify its 186 classes of equivalent solutions.
