- Abstract
It is shown how in the early days of soliton theory 1976-the early 1980's Francesco Calogero maintained a considerable influence on the field and on the work of the athor Robin Bullough in particular. A vehicle to this end was the essentially annual sequence of international conferences Francesco organised with his usual skill and with minimum fuss. Some of these conferences, the NEEDs meetings, and their mathemaical contents, are here recalled each offering its own especial pleasure to the writer.
