Abstract

There has been little empirical research and theory development around how small to medium (SME) sized non–profits are using social media, or how they are attempting to manage the risks associated with social media use, especially in the area of social media policy development. As such, the key aim of this research is to consider how SME non–profits are using social media, in addition to the nature of risk management and policy development within the social media space. Findings from this research may help speak to future strategic directions and policy initiatives for SME non–profit firms as well as broader stakeholder groups.
