The 8th Annual Conference of URSI-NG was held between March 20–22, 2024, as an hybrid programme at the Federal University of Technology Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria. The conference attracted participants from five countries (South Africa, Zimbabwe, Brazil, India, and Nigeria). Students and faculty made up 60% and 40% of the registered participants at the conference.

The opening ceremony was held at the WASCAL conference room at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria. The conference was declared opened by the Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology Akure while the keynote address was delivered by Prof. Owolawi, Tshwane University of Technology, South Africa. During the opening ceremony, Prof. S. S. Oluyamo who is the current Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development) presented travel grants to two deserving students at the conference. The plenary sessions were delivered by David Nyom, National Centre for Remote Sensing.

There were a total of 33 abstract submissions which were organized around three broad themes—(1) artificial intelligence and machine learning; (2) radio propagation and 5G; and (3) weather and climate change. Thirty abstracts were presented across the three thematic areas. URSI-NG24 pioneered three sessions dedicated to career and professional development. The mentoring session covered topics including building collaborations across borders and creating a formidable research profile. The tutorial session delved into the use ofmachine learning with Python andMATLAB. A workshop around modern referencing tool and LaTeX was also involved. Sophie Fergurson from The Royal Society gave a lecture on academic publishing.
