Abstract

Culture is a giant term which can be divided into three levels: material culture, social culture and ideological culture. Almost every aspect of life is included in these three levels. As a big part of social culture, education plays an important role in transferring the culture. Educational style is one of the most significant parts in people's life, and different nations have different educational style. As the typical nation in the east, China has its own typical educational style that is different from the western's. Knowing their differences of education and the cultural reasons of these differences are crucial in intercultural communication. Especially, with the globalization of the world, a mastery of a good knowledge about cultural diversity is turning into a sparkling question in the cross-cultural communication. This paper makes a comparative study on differences between Chinese and Western educational style so as to find out the different cultural connotations lying behind. The first chapter discusses the differences of family education in China and western countries, comparing the differences of parents' role and attention in the family between China and western countries with analyzing the cultural connotations of these differences. The second chapter debates the differences of school education in China and western countries, comparing the differences of school, student and learning-teaching style between china and the western countries with analyzing the cultural connotations of these differences. Chapter Three argues the differences of social education in China and western countries, comparing people's different attention to responsibility for education, working experience and family background with analyzing the cultural reasons of these differences. The research aims to improve the understanding of each other's culture and values well, which can have reference value and significance to English learners and students.
