- Abstract
Low Birth Weight events are closely related to nutritional status. The nutritional status of pregnant women both before and throughout pregnancy can describe the availability of nutrients in the mother’s body to support fetal development. Predictors of a woman’s nutritional status throughout pregnancy can be done by measuring upper arm circumference and hemoglobin examination. The purpose of this study is to find out the relationship of the nutritional status of pregnant women in the third trimester with the birth weight of babies in the working area of Puskesmas Pauh Padang. This study is an observational study on the scope of community nutrition with longitudinal studies and prospective approaches. The data was taken in May- July 2021. The population of the study was all third-trimester pregnant women domiciled in the work area. The subjects of 35 pregnant women were selected consecutively sampling and had met the criteria for inclusion and exclusion. Computerized data processing and analysis with the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and the Pearson correlation test. The results showed a relationship between the circumference of the upper arm (p=0.012) and hemoglobin levels (p=0.005) and the baby’s birth weight.
