Abstract

This paper analyzes the quantity changes of speakers among the major languages in the world. We apply trend extrapolation to forecast native speakers. Meanwhile, we apply Markov chain to simulate the process of migration and learn dynamic changes of non-native speakers. We conclude that Mandarin Chinese ranks first and 63% migrants as language carriers choose the U.S. and thus English maintains its status. We finally list top 10 languages in terms of numbers of native speakers and total speakers.
