- Abstract
This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the random text method in learning to write news texts for class VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 OKU and to describe learning to write news texts for grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 OKU. The method used in this research is an experimental method with a sample of 32 students. The data collection technique used was a news text writing test. The results showed that the ability of students of class VIII SMP Negeri 1 OKU in writing news texts using the random text method had increased as seen from the results of students’ writing tests before and after applying the random text method using five aspects of the assessment criteria in writing news texts, namely the accuracy of the content. news text; completeness of news text elements; word accuracy, sentence accuracy, spelling. With the difference in the ability of the pre-test and final test, it can be said that the random text method is effectively used in learning to write news texts on the ability of class VIII SMP Negeri 1 OKU students. Thus the use of the random text method can increase student motivation and improve students’ ability in learning to write news texts.
