Abstract

This article tells the story of local wisdom at Parangkusumo Beach, Yogyakarta, which is known for its mystical and legendary sites. This research aims to analyze how the local wisdom and traditions of coastal communities influence the management of natural resources and ecological balance in the region, as well as the impact of tourism development and industrialization on the preservation of local wisdom and the socio-cultural dynamics of the community. This research uses qualitative methods with observation techniques and literature study. Research findings show that local wisdom practices, such as the Labuhan ceremony, play an important role in maintaining ecological and social balance on Parangkusumo Beach. However, modernization and tourism have influenced the way of life and beliefs of local people. Therefore, collaborative efforts are needed between the government, community and non-government organizations to preserve and promote local wisdom. Empowering the younger generation and integrating local wisdom in long-term development planning is the key to maintaining the continuity of traditions and improving community welfare. Local wisdom possessed by local communities not only functions as traditional knowledge, but also as a way of life that helps maintain balance between humans and nature [1]. Apart from that, the importance of the role of the younger generation in preserving local wisdom is also recognized, because they are the inheritors of traditions who must be empowered and given a deep understanding of values [2].
