Abstract

Constraints in market access, uneven pricing, and overreliance on intermediaries are some of the key challenges faced in agriculture. They tend to lead to lower prices for farmers and inflated prices for consumers. This study proposes a mobile application for Direct Market Access (DMA), where farmers can directly contact consumers, eliminating middlemen, and promoting fair trading practices. The platform does not empower farmers to list products, set prices, and interact with buyers. Instead, it guarantees transparency and fair trade in agriculture. An ongoing development is to make price matching in real-time, include product cataloging, allow user reviews, provide geo-location-based product availability tracking, and seamless sales transactions. Such functionalities give greater visibility, more efficiency, and easier access to the market, especially for small farmers. The study also addresses the emerging challenges of providing internet access in these areas, security of data, building trust, and ensuring a literacy on digital systems. Furthermore, the study will be looking at the effects that DMA creates on rural livelihoods, food security, and sustainable agricultural trade. Suggestions for further improvements revolve around financial service integration, market trend predictive analytics, and logistics expansion for better optimization of supply chains in agriculture.
